Social Media as a Natural Living System

I was asked to Define Social Media as an organic natural living system. I think that the very best comparison that can be made is to liken it to Trees.... even though there may be some other characteristics that need to be added, I think that the following trees are the most like the Social Networks below... what are your thoughts?

•Linked in is an Orchard... even though there may be seasonal fruit, for the most part it falls to the ground and disappears in its environment.

 •Twitter is like a Shrub .... little twigs can spring up anywhere. However the issue is most people don't notice them.

Facebook is a Larch tree.... (Christmas Tree) you can decorate your own tree, add bling and when you get it exactly where you want it, the system drops its needles and it changes! It is the coniferous tree that transforms with change of attitudes of its creator!

 •YouTube is an Oak Tree... it can be planted alone or in clusters. It is mighty on its own and will withstand the tests of time and transformation of its environment.

•This tree has a very strong core... bears fruit, transforms with the seasons, works with its environment to adapt to change. Has a very strong root system from the bottom up... but is most unique because of its ability to let roots plant in from the top down as well. The top down growth allows the core to grow at an amazing rate, strengthening the main system, working together even though the individual top down roots start off alone, they combine with other roots (members) in collaboration to achieve their collective goals faster and more securely.

Collectively Creation. Even though our branches may go out in a different direction... we are all a part of the same system. Working together to help us all grow stronger as a team. The reason why people will invest in UnitingCreatives is because of the strength of the team that we have in place rather than the limbs of the individual. What is NEW with Facebook ...

Tweet Well there are some very interesting things developing on Facebook, and of course I needed to share my findings!

Firstly have you seen the Icon on your friends profile pages called "Friendship Page" ?"They contain the public Wall posts and comments between two friends, photos in which both are tagged, Events they RSVP'd for together and more. You'll be able to see a friendship page if you are friends with one of the people and have permission to view both people's profiles."

Facebook 101..The New Face of Facebook!

Facebook 101 The New Face of Facebook!
During a phone conversation with a friend of mine that I have not spoken to for a long time, he lovingly said that I was the worst “Spammer” on his friend list. I was in shock thinking.. I have not sent out messages to my groups for a long time..and really keep ‘invites’ to a minimum. Then I realized what he was speaking about..and had to laugh!

He was referring to the Facebook news feed. Since facebook automatically gathers information from wall posts that friends make, he thought it was me sending messages to him! Since he is a computer ‘geek’ and he never knew what was happening, I could not help but wonder how many other people in my facebook family were of the same thinking… so I am here to offer a little help!
My perspective of facebook is through the eyes of someone who has about 5000 friends.. so in the regular news feed, I hardly see the same person twice in one day. Also, I have so many people “tagging” me in notes, I just don’t have time to read them all.(sorry)

So, if you don’t know what you don’t know, you can’t do anything to fix (help, change) your facebook experience! If you are interested, I am going to put together some training videos to help visually show you what I am about to explain…let me know if that will help you!

Let’s start with the News Feed:
Facebook enables you to see what’s happening with your friends through news feeds.
The News feed is found on your “Home” wall! It is a list of your friends, pages & now group wall postings. YOU can adjust who you see in your feeds… There are a couple of options
News Feed and Live Feed (let’s you view the feed the moment people post.) News feed gathers the most interesting things your friends are posting..(based on ‘Likes’) and the live feed gives a real time update of all feeds.
You can adjust the content that appears on your home page by adjusting the settings on the left hand side of your screen. Adjusting your setting helps you change the face of your facebook! It will help you adjust your perspective to a different view.

Tagging: When someone Tags you in a note or a picture it doesn’t always mean that YOU are in the story or the picture... people do that as a way of quickly sharing the content with YOU. It means that “this” is something that I think you would be interested in either seeing or reading.

@ replies... now you can tag your friends by adding their name to a status update or send them a quick shout out to thank them for posting something that you are going to share! Give it a try, it is a great new feature. Write @Marcia Johnson (or anyone) to see what I mean... then not only will the link show up on your wall... but it will show up on theirs as well.

Lists: In order to quickly see what your personal friends or family are up to...create a List. On your friends page (link is on the top of your screen) You have the option to create lists... name them whatever you want, that way not only can you quickly invite people to join a group or page, but you also now have the option of viewing that group news feed on your home page.... the option is on the left hand side of home page once groups are created.

Groups vs Pages: I am a fan of both, now that FB has changed groups to resemble pages... so far the only difference that I can see is the special features and statistics that pages offer. With these new changes, groups that have over 5000 members can still be in contact with their members as well as have their content appear in member newsfeeds.

Like: When you click on the little Like button under a post... it helps promote the post onto more and more newsfeeds, so if you really do like a post, please click like to show your support!

Email Updates: I highly suggest adjusting these, or you will become flooded with FB stuff! You can the types of information that you receive in your email inbox by clicking on the settings feature (top right of FB screen) There you will find three main options.. Account Settings, Privacy Settings, and Application Settings. From there you have there a merit of options. Do take a look, turn off the ones that you find annoying, so that you facebook experience turns out to be a pleasant one!

What Do I Do?

So, the things that are do are many... but since you asked I thought I would send you a note to let you know some of what I do. A part of me is shocked at all that I have been able to accomplish..so far. I write about my life experiences and interactions in order to share my authentic self with YOU.

I am married and am a mother to 6 children. Two are my bonus children that my husband had before I met him... and my oldest two boys are mine from my first marriage...then we had two..

I am a business woman who is building http://www.stockharmony.com/ ... I have extensive business experience including owning an Electrical company and working in the investing/ stock market world...Among other things. Stock Harmony is my way of highlighting companies that make a difference in the world...by doing business with integrity, transparency and honesty. In order to support this, I host a radio show called Stock Talk Radio...

Another part of what I do, is promote Peace...and Inspiration. To do this I host another radio show called Inspired by YOU on Planting Seeds for Peace Radio. I am working in conjunction with Lynne Hazelden to create a worldwide celebration in support of Peace One Day, Peace Jam, Jerusalem Peace Preschool, Kids for Peace [and many more]...to elevate their amazing work to highlight Peace. I believe that through sharing and elevating others I not only become a better person...but it is my way of giving back in gratitude for all of the wonderful experiences I have been blessed to have in my life. Paying It Forward

When I started the Daily OM Facebook group over a year ago, I did it as my way of Paying it Forward for the Dailyom.com I wanted to help get the word out about the amazing notes that were a gift, so I set out to find out more. The Daily OM is written by a group of very gifted writers every weekday. (If you have not been to the site yet, you can also sign up for the Daily Hoiscopes.) Instead of just posting the Daily OM on my websites, where it would only 5% of the site, I created this group so that it could be 95% and 5% my stuff. Through this group and our Page, I have helped turn thousands of people onto the Daily OM. http://www.dailyom.com/

So, every single week day, my ritual, is to “Pay it Forward,” and send the Daily OM note on to you. This is my gift to YOU, even if I am traveling, I somehow always find a way to send it out…even if I have to be up at 2am in get it out. WE even have a FB fan page for people to interact in a discussion about the Daily OM topics.

I have been asked a lot lately how I manage to do everything that I do..in my effort to make the world a better place. In addition to being the Mother of my ‘Brady Bunch’, I am the President of Stock Harmony http://www.stockharmony.com/ , I have over 20 FB groups and pages, I created the “Power Thoughts”, Daily Affirmation FB application that have had over 350,000 apps sent out, I have 2 radio shows, (Stock Talk Radio & Inspired By YOU on Planting Seeds for Peace Radio) I have also started creating mini movies [on our group wall] , helped with the sale of “Beyond the Secret DVD,” as well as maintaining my blogs http://www.eaupening.blogspotcom/ & http://www.stockharmony.blogspot.com/ , supporting my husband with our electrical company… & creating PEACE day events around the world…for Peace Day. (so if you are a musician or a teacher…we could use your assistance with Peace Day…September 21st.)

Through this venue of social networking I have made it my policy to elevate others… and through that, the work itself has elevated me…for that I am most humbled by the honor of being of service and providing thought provoking information infused with true value.

Since I have almost reached the Facebook limit for friends, and I have 400 people waiting to become my friend, I have built myself a fan page. That way if people would like to learn more about me… and ALL that I am up to, they can. My life is an open book, full of amazing learning opportunities on my part. If through sharing my life learning with others helps to inspire them to step into their own greatness, I am happy to do so. I have had some incredible adventures and plan on having many many more. The People that I have had the privilege of meeting and learning from will blow you away. I am a student of life, I read everything from Investment strategy books to spiritual wisdom and everything in-between. Are YOU Making a Difference

Thanks to Facebook, Skype & Twitter, I have met some of my very best friends. It is an opening to a world without borders; we can interact with people regardless of traditional boundaries. Time Zones don’t matter, there are no flights to take in order to visit, no lineups, and no real waiting. We live in a time where interactions are instant regardless if people are right in front of their computers…they can reply from their phones.

There was a time where I felt, I was alone…I was unique in my thoughts and why was I the only one. Now, I am connected with thousands of likeminded thinkers from all over the planet. I can see into their thoughts, view pictures and watch videos about all of their movement they make as they step towards creating the world a better place. I am not alone in my thinking… I have connected with thousands of people who are Making A Difference Everyday… they are M.A.D.E.
When we think that we are alone…when we isolate ourselves in our own perspective and deny ourselves the opportunity to learn and grow, we falsely think that we are alone. Even though we withdraw ourselves form some aspects of life, we are not invisible…we are missed…even if we think are not. We are all a valuable part of the collective consciousness. When we tell ourselves that we are not…that is a story…it is BS and not true. Everyone has a purpose, a reason and creates a ripple effect … even though we may never see the affects of our time on earth. Every action we take, every decision we make , everything that we do matters… we are all impacting people’s lives, the planet and generations to come. It all boils down to the choices that we make…even the “choice” to do nothing is a choice…

We serve no one by keeping ourselves small… so I encourage you to start …start making educated decisions that positively make a difference in the world, in your world and in your daily life… by doing that, you affect us all!

Facebook Educate 101: When you come across a story, picture, video etc… click on the “like” button..That way it boosts the popularity of the “Liked” piece and promotes it on the newsfeeds..therefore spreading the love all over Facebook!
